Right now, we are a band that is experimenting with style. I joke that the band's style is "Dream Folk Rock Pop", which pretty much sums up our 3 EP series. The band started with the intent of being a "collective" - where different musicians come and go as needed. Right now, we have a tight lineup of the four of us... but, other musicians still join us for the live show and in the studio.

It was a time in my life of transition. I felt part of me had died, but that there was an exciting period of rebirth ahead. I think the name captures that. There is also a strange mix of sadness and hope in the name that I like very much.

Originally, Dead Heart Bloom was a one man band - I wrote and performed the first two records. Guitarist Paul Wood, who played with me in a prior band, joined up in 2008 and we wrote the next 3 EPs together. By that time New York musicians Nate Goheen and John Hadfield had also joined.

Not any in particular, but we do like to experiement with different sounds.

Right now, I would say "Flash in the Bottle" - I think it's a succesful song and recording, and it is still fresh in my mind because it is from our last recording (the EP 'In Chains'). As far as a band favorite, there are some new songs we have been playing live that really work. We will be releasing them on a new record sometime in the Spring.

We are constantly trying to improve and looking forward to the next success. But recently, we've had some success with our music on TV (our music was on several TV shows over here, the most recent was Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles back in March), which has been great because it has exposed the music to a wider audience.

The most important thing for us as artists is for people to hear our creations. Because we are a relatively new band, the best way to do that is to give our music away. We have faith in the fans that they will support us in the future and in other ways.

Analyze the show to see what we could do better! But then, relax a bit, drink a beer, or get in the van to travel to the next city.

The song is from the first self-titled Dead Heart Bloom record. That record was written with a concept in mind of a character who goes through a transformation. The song New Messiah comes at a point in the characters death and rebirth - or, transformation as a "new messiah". It's a very loose concept, but it works in the context of the record.

First, as a Ukrainian, I have a very close connection to Eastern Europe and its people. So, thanks for listening to our music, and thanks for getting in touch with us. Second, advice I would give to anyone is keep following your dreams and someday good things will happen... it's something I still try to remember everyday.
